Learning to love SIMPLICITY

Hello all! Today I'm sharing a few cards I've made for the Penny Black SIMPLICITY Challenge which ends March 1st at midnight.
Most of my cards do not imply SIMPLICITY... CAS is difficult for me...I'm a messy card maker:) However, after seeing all the fabulous examples from the Simplicity Sisters  every Tuesday and Thursday, I really wanted to participate in the challenge.. give SIMPLE a chance, plus.... a $50 shopping spree is on the line!!

This one I posted on the Penny Circle Flickr gallery a few weeks back and got a TWEET from Jill:))

That encouraged me to give SIMPLICITY another go:)
AND some new PB toys arrived in the mail!!

Thanks for stopping by...only one more sleep till the weekend!!
Have a GREAT one!

The Card Concept Challenge #29

The Card Concept Challenge #29 begins today! Once again the inspiration photo is full of color!!
The Theme is GET WELL SOON!

Here is my card for the FREESTYLE COLLAGE category.

I used a new stencil from STAMPlorations called Oh My Stars!
The stars have Sweet sizes and shapes in my opinion...not too pointy:)
The tea cup is from Mama Elephant and the frame Wplus9.

I did some coloring with marker on the cup as well as watercolor on the BG.

DO stop by to see the cards from the other DT gals, along with Guest designer Jeanne Jachna.
Remember, all styles are welcome:)
Hope to see you playing along!

LauraJane:)

PS.
Just wanted to share some of my favorite lyrics from Mercy Me's GREATER

There'll be days I lose the battle
Grace says that it doesn't matter
Cause the cross already won the war
He's Greater
He's Greater

I am learning to run freely
Understanding just how he sees me
And it makes me love him more and more
He's Greater
He's Greater
than
He who is living the world

Playing with Altenew and CASology

Altenew's February Challenge: From the Craft Room this month really was inspirational!

I took the time to play with four Altenew sets:

I'm debating if this is MONOCHROME and CAS enough to enter the new CASology Challenge..green is neutral right?:))

What do you think?

 STAMPlorations is sponsoring the challenge:)
I'm REALLY enjoying playing with their new stencils:)) You will see in tomorrow's post.

Thanks for stopping by!

STAMPlorations Sketch Challenge #28

Hello!  Today we have a new Sketch for you to play with at STAMPlorations.

Here is my take:

I created a background using Vignette: Mod Shapes in shades of purple then white washed it with Picket Fence Distress stain.
I fussed with the banner stitching and added some Brushed Pewter Distress Paint and then layered some Black marker over the top of that to give some contrast.
Stamped a flower image on a white circle die layered with black as well.
Fussy Cut an embossed sentiment from BOLD SENTIMENTS and adhered it all together..
In the end I like how it turned out:)
I DO find Sketches to be most challenging!

Hope you stop be STAMPlorations to see all the other cards from the last challenge winners!
Congratulations Guest Designers!

The STAMPlorations Gals have some pretty amazing inspiration for you as well! I am truly amazed with how varied the cards turn out to be:))

PTI MAKE IT MONDAY #200: LAYERING COVER PLATE DIE CUTS

Dawn McVey shares some ideas for layering Papertrey's Cover Plate die cuts for MIM #200.

I used four of the Cover Plate: In the Woods . The top two are covered with glitter, the two lower layers are of a darker rose color paper. Two hearts nestled in with Bitty Buttons and bow make a pretty Victorian Valentine!

TCC Challenge #28: ROMANCE

LOVE is in the air!!

The Card Concept challenge #26 is ROMANCE
I've enjoyed creating Valentines more than any other type of cards.  Making them for friends and loved ones as a child and throughout my life has been the sunshine when the winter blues try to creep in.  Maybe it's the theme, or the colors...the shapes?
I know I was inspired by the textures and colors from this week's photo  at The Card Concept.

It's all about LOVE and ROMANCE:)
Hop over to see all the DT cards. You bet they will inspire you to create something full of LOVE.

Thanks for stopping by today!

Virginia View Challenge #12

This month's challenge at Virginia's View is SHAKER CARDS.
Shakers are EVERYWHERE these days!! They are pretty and interactive...but I'm not a fan of the bulkiness of them.
However, Virginia shares HELPFUL links on HOW to Make shakers:)
Jennifer McGuire: Shaker Card Tips , Vellum Shaker Card, Shaker Card Tips-3 Cards
Kristina Werner: Sewn Shaker Card
Nichol Magouirk: Shaker Card with Beads
Julia Altermann: Shaker Card with Seed Beads

After seeing all these SHAKER help videos I played along.

Lots of layers but still very thin! Glitter and small paper confetti punches make GREAT no-bulk shaker material!

EDITED: This is not my first shaker I have made...just the first without the fiddly foam tape and trying to line things up to keep all the shakeables from escaping:)
My other attempts are here, here, here and here.

Thanks for stopping by!
LauraJane:)

Just a hint on watching videos...hit the settings button.... bump up the speed and watch in half the time:)

STAMPlorations Sketch Challenge #27 Challenge

Well, today begins my first official post as a STAMPLorations Challenge DT member.  One of the things I enjoy about being on the team is the encouragement to just get out there and Experiment, Make messes and create!
In other words---PLAY!!
Shery, the owner of STAMPlorations, has such a playful spirit, You really need to watch her videos...I LOVE it when she makes her cards "dance" on screen when she is happy with the results!

Anyway, here is my card for the  Sketch Challenge #27 Challenge using:

Sketches are a challenge for me not to use literally. Going at an angle is the most I could allow for this one today:/ but I did plenty of masking:))

There are PRIZES!!!
Winner
prize: 3 digi stamps
guest designer spot in Sketch #30

2 Top picks
the option to be a guest designer in the Sketch #30 Challenge if they'll use a STAMPlorations digi stamp (to be provided) or clear stamp (if they already have them)
