Altenew Celebrating Parents Card Drive Blog Hop + Giveaway

I'm honored to be a part of this Blog Hop Celebrating Parents
Creating Mother’s Day and Father’s Day cards seems to be an easy thing for me, as my parents are and have been very influential in my life.  As Mom and Dad grow older, I see our roles changing as caregivers.  A simple phone call or even a brief text means so much. Taking it a step further and sending an actual card showing appreciation and LOVE is the Sprinkle on top!

If you are hopping from the start, you are arriving from Laurie Willison's blog.

Altenew will be collecting handmade cards between March 14th and April 30th. Hope you join us and create something lovely for this special Celebrating Parents Card Drive

Here are some cards I made for the card drive. I'll give a short description on how to make each one, later in the post.

*20% of the profits earned from the following sets (Best Dad, Painted Rose, Penned Rose, Extra Special, and Best Mom) by 6/17/2017 will be donated to Food Bank of Central New York to support seniors in need.

Best Dad Stamp & Die Bundle is the star of my first card. Which I  enjoyed coloring with Artistic Markers after each image was stamped and cut out. Then I arranged them onto the Pegboard Canvas Cover Die
***********************************************

Next I created another masculine card featuring Trigonometry Stamp & Die Bundle.
Stamped with Crisp inks Sweet Dreams Mini Cube Set and Maple Yellow from Pocketful of Sunshine Mini Cube Set. The sentiments are from BEST DAD stamp set. I randomly cut three dotted triangles on an A2 sized card front. Layered that panel onto a white cardbase and placed the other inked triangles around the sentiment. The main Thank you sentiment is heat embossed onto Gold Paper and popped up with fun foam tape.
****************************************
Moving on to some feminine cards:)
Extra Special Stamp & Die Bundle has such pretty floral layering images.
  • I inked Two of the large spray outlined images with Bamboo crisp ink
  • Then I inked the layers of  EXTRA SPECIAL blooms with Dew Drops, and Aqualicious.
  • The leaves and stem solid images are inked with Minty Mint and Sweet Leaf.
  • To add a kiss of sparkle, I flicked an embossing pen over the blooms and heat embossed with platinum EP, a lesson learned in the Impressive Heat Embossing class at Altenew Academy.
  • Then cut both sprays out with the coordinating die and then cut the sprays into several pieces to make a custom swag arrangement

Mixed in my arrangement is the Leafy Wreath Die spritzed with DUSK metallic spray and smooshed some Just Green Crips ink onto the leaves. I then clipped it into smaller pieces and tucked them in and around the floral blooms. Those bits of Orange are from the Create-A-Wreath Die Set. one of my favorite filler die sets:)
Before placing the floral swag arrangement onto a card front:

  • Dry embossed the Halftone Cover Die onto white A2 sized CS
  • Splattered Aqualicious and Sweet Leaf smooched onto an acrylic block and flicked with a wet brush
  • Stamped the tiny flower and sprig images from DOT LABELS  in black
  • Created the Label by inking and sparsely embossing it with Platinum EP then cut it out with the die
To finish the card:
  • Matted the cardfront onto coordinating paper
  • Adhered the floral arrangement with foam tape and liquid glue
  • Embellished withBlack Nuvo dots

**********************************
For a more simple card using Extra Special Stamp & Die Bundle: I colored the sweet flowers and leaves with  Artistic Markers: B002, B201, B204, B227, B 313, G554, G702, G715
After die cutting with the coordinating die, I layered up a pretty freestyle collage of goodness which included several triangles left over from the masculine card above using Trigonometry Stamp & Die Bundle.A blue Layered Rose die cut, and a tag from Handmade Tags die set.
The Dotted Scales Debossing Cover Die makes a delicate textured background for the collage:) and a simple Silver thread nest/bow are all that is needed for embellishment!

This card sports an element from the class, With a Twist, at the Altenew Academy, as the Triangles are often considered masculine, yet in this arrangement they add interest among the otherwise feminine collage.
******************************************
And my final card is a quick One Layer card using the Wildflower Garden Stamp Set.
Make this card:

Your first mother's day card looks almost like an underwater scene because of the color and shimmer, and I love that you were able to do that with wreath sets. And I also love how you used the trigonometry set. I love geometric sets, and you really showed of why: they are just so versatile! Thanks for sharing and supporting such a fabulous cause!
