Altenew Get Inky with Alcohol Inks Blog Hop + Giveaway ($300 in Total Prizes!)

Welcome to my stop on the GET INKY with alcohol inks Blog Hop at ALTENEW.  I'm LauraJane, thanks for stopping in!! 

At first, all I have been doing with Altenew’s Alcohol Inks Collection Re-fills is re-inking my much loved Artist Markers. However, after seeing other projects and watching MANY videos, I took a leap and dove in to the uncontrolled world of alcohol ink art! WOW! IS IT EVER ADDICTIVE :)))) 

Here are a few panels created after learning to play/go with the flow of INK and Alcohol. I used items already in my stash. 

The two main INK collections I ended up creating with were: Tea Party and Lapis Lazuli. These two combined to make lovely shades of purple and not any muddy hues; which seemed to happen when I first started out because I had too many different colors swirling together, as seen further down in this post.

So, I went from simply re-filling the markers to coloring/scribbling on non-porous paper and adding drops of 70%-91% alcohol and experiencing the wonderful magic of color moving to create unique backgrounds!! Truly something exciting to enjoy! Just remember to have a well ventilated work area :)))

TIP: alcohol inks can be re-activated by adding more alcohol and inks. So if there is a project that you don't like, don't toss it!! Good YUPO/Alcohol Ink cardstock holds up well to adding more and MORE even more ink application.

Blowing through a thin straw to move the Lapis Lazuli inks around a center of BLACK ink formed a messy bloom. This technique is something I played around with for several hours, which seemed like only 5 minutes, and I will get back to again! 

TIP: Put a few drops of Vegetable Glycerin in a Watercolor Brush then filled it up with Alcohol for a traditional BLENDING SOLUTION on a DIY budget. This solution gives a bit more time to move the inks around before drying up completely.

This next piece is a simple wash of three different shades of blue: B227, B313, and B201. After letting it air dry for a day there was a few spots that seemed able to hold a kiss of GOLD embossing powder. TIP: BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN HEAT SETTING on YUPO paper! It will melt/warp with too much concentrated heat.

And these last two photos are snapshots of pieces that I first created using too many different colors, hence the look of MUD in a few areas :) Again, I added GOLD embossing powder which gave a GALAXY look to a couple of the pieces. I added a bit of GOLD Metallic SPRAY too, just for fun.
