June CASEplorations: CASEing Virginia Lu

I'm thrilled to be CASEing a card from the dear Virginia Lu.

Hers
Mine

I chose to start with vellum that had polka-dots
  • Stamped my images and embossed them in gold as Virginia had done
  • I then colored the backside of the vellum as Virginia suggested so as not to cover up the gold embossing. ( this makes a LOVELY soft wash of color show through the front side.)
  • I DID add a bit of extra color carefully to the front for depth.
  • The rest I pretty much copied from the original card...sentiment ,twine and circle dies with sequins.

Virginia's original card can be seen at her post here .
Hop over to CASEplorations and join the CASE fun!
A perfect  opportunity to CASE a card from a MASTER card maker: Virginia Lu!

TCC #36 and ARTplorations May Stencil Hop- Day 3

Today is day 3 of ARTplorations Stencil Blog Hop and the beginning of a NEW challenge at The Card Concept.

I was inspired by the color green and pretty white frosting. on all those cupcakes in the TCC photo.
  • I started with watercolor paper, and several colors of distress inks sponged on heavily...i.e. lots of color.
  • Spritzed the back of the stencil with water and placed it on the  inked paper..let it dry without lifting the stencil up.
  • When dry and before lifting the stencil, I used the Tim Holtz Distress Marker Spritzer Tool and lightly misted some more color.
  • NOW lift the stencil to reveal the butterflies!! oh so pretty:)
  • Then I stamped Trendy Butterflies in gold over the top of some of the revealed images.
  • I like to "shadow" the butterflies with a grey marker.
  • The sentiment is gold embossed on vellum and simply wrapped around the BG paper.
  • A bit of washi finished the edges.
  • PPP SPRINGTIME mix LG flower sequins and SSS Tiny Flowers Sequins in VANILLA add a nice pop of sparkle for the butterflies to dance around:) I used Tiny 1/8" clear ZOTS to adhere them.

Papertrey Ink May 2015 Blog Hop Challenge

Hello!
My card for the Papertrey Ink May 2015 Blog Hop came from a night of insomnia.  Instead of being frustrated over the lost sleep I simply got up and made my card. Using the MISTI ( which is 10% off today only) I created the repeat pattern very easily.  Then I cut the ENCLOSED: STAR and inlaid it back in.  By this time sweet sleep and peaceful rest was mine:).

When I returned to the card this morning I realized it needed more color on the star, so I cut another one, inked it in Harvest gold and glued it on top of the other.

MUCH happier with this now.

PTI MAKE IT MONDAY #212: FUSSY CUTTING

With my eyesight fading as I get older, fussy cutting is not as easy or as fun as it used to be.  However, I gave PTI's MAKE IT MONDAY #212: FUSSY CUTTING a go this week.

I did enjoy playing with Beautiful Butterflies and the Beautiful Butterflies Layers:)

Here is the fussy cut sentiment layered with a darker colored paper behind it.

I had an opportunity to play with a gelli plate and a new stencil, Floral Mania from ARTplorations.  ALL these lovelies were created:) Can you find the one I used for this card?         Yep, that very top right corner one.
I stamped over the flower images created from the gelli plate and stencil with the matching Stamp set  VIGNETTE: Eclectic Florals

One Layer Christmas Card Challenge #9

The One Layer Christmas Card Challenge #9 is ANYTHING GOES...with the twist "ANGEL".
I really DO like a ONE LAYER CARD...but am I ready for making Christmas cards?
Well, I gave it a go today, and found it a challenge.. Angels are cute but CUTE is not my gig.   I had to look far into the deep reaches of my stash to find an ANGEL:)
Here she is: Kind of CINDERELLA-like don't you think?

And here is my entire card.  I used the Spectrum Aqua markers to color her in..I'm still practicing, Can't seem to get out of the OUTLINING faze, that's how I've been coloring since I can remember!

If the layout looks familiar it is due to this STUNNER from KIM MAKORTOFF
Now I see that I forgot to get messy with the splatters.

Thanks for looking
LauraJane:)

The prize for this challenge is this stencil:

Now that is an ANGEL I can work with :)

TCC #35- A study of Rose Frosting and Silver

Hello dear readers and fellow watercolor enthusiasts:) I admit I'm smitten with the coloring of MARIKA. Studying her cards and videos has me working on patience and a NEVER give up attitude.
I  strugglewith multi layered rose stamps and watercolors.  Too much color, too much water, and pilling of the paper.
DRAT!
After fiddling with the layers of WMS Old Country Roses, I find my trouble of  adding too much color and loosing the white highlights force me to keep working with it:)
So Yes, a study in ROSE Frosting...Today I ended up using Copic OPAQUE WHITE  to paint in the highlights:))
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay! - Lewis Carroll
she chortled in her joy!

I thought the inspiration photo for the NEW challenge at The Card Concept was scrumptious

I ended up with a One layered card that I'm somewhat happy with.
I stated out with a white piece of cardstock, stamped my two layers of OLD ROSES and them added water to the darker areas...finished off with the Opaque White to add some texture and highlights.
Masked those roses and created the BG by adding thin strips of washi and stamping HA's Designer WOODGRAIN, removed the washi and masked the woodgrain with post-it paper to darken the "black wood spaces". Let that dry.  Then stamped WMS FOLK ART MEDALLION in Unicorn White and embossed it with CLEAR powder.
To finish off the card I added some silver striped washi, a metallic piece of ribbon and The HELLO die from Penny Black. The Die and very edge of the cardbase are embossed with Rangers' Liquid Platinum.

Hope this inspires you to just keep trying with those watercolors...add some Copic if you need too:)
AND
join in the fun at TCC!

See ya!

LauraJane:)
