Altenew + The Daily Marker Watercolor Therapy Blog Hop & Giveaway

Altenew is collaborating with the amazing Kathy Racoosin from The Daily Marker to inspire crafters to find joy through coloring. Kathy is celebrating her 16th 30 Day Coloring Challenge until 5/7/2020. Please encourage your followers/blog visitors to participate in the 30 Day Coloring Challenge by coloring something and share it on social media using the hashtag #TheDailyMarker30Day. We hope they find “Me Time” and enjoy the benefits that coloring will give.

I LOVE to color and Kathy Racoosin has been a huge influence for me. Her challenge #TheDailyMarker30Day is a fun way to get that 10 minutes of coloring a day in as well as supporting other colorists by LIKING/commenting/ Encouraging them as they share their colored projects on social media. I've participated in several years of the challenge and enjoyed being an Ambassador for Kathy and her 7th challenge. Coloring 10 minutes a day, has increased my skills and is a great stress reliever too!

Below you can see two projects I've been working on for today's post using the Artists' Watercolor 24 Pan Set.

This first one is some messy watercoloring on the A Study in Watercolor Stamp & Die Bundle which I die cut onto Watercolor Paper Set (A2 loose sheets) and then lightly stamped with Sea Breeze crisp ink.

After allowing the flowers to dry, I created a cluster that looks like Hollyhocks on top of a Flowing Drops Stencil. and finished with a strip of Golden Strokes Washi tape and Sequins - Antique Gold.
Let me tell you a bit about this Background. It was created as Homework for Day 2 Demystifying Mixed Media at Altenew Academy When creative MOJO is low, the classes at the Academy are my first source of inspiration! I highly recommend looking into them :)

 *******
Since there was so much color left on my palette from the above card, I tried painting a few free hand florals. this was the best I could come up with. Check out the hot mess below.
And now I am again reminded how blessed we are to have access to so many outline flower stamps at Altenew, because what I paint is no where near as realistic as what I was hopping for!
Good ol' splatters and color washes to make it look like I meant it to be that way :)))

Dancing Tulips among the Forget-Me-Nots
Sending Colorful Blessings your way.

Thanks for stopping by!
Hoping that my cards inspire your next masterpiece!!

Beautiful card! Messy watercolor is my favorite painting technique

No Formalities said...

You have a very interesting watercolour style. Thank you for sharing.

jcamp2020 said...

I would frame your messy watercolors any day! I was not sure where you were going with all the free standing flowers then I went back and read where you die cut them.. the fine print. Then you made your bouquet. Took a look at that stencil, and went and put it on my wish list. Thanks. Staying home, reading, crafting, blog hopping and staying safe. You all take care.

Barbara said...

These are both beautiful and I'm always interested to see what others watercolor. Sometimes, when watercoloring I end up with something I want to frame, but not as often as I would like. Lol! Thanks for sharing your beautiful work!

Cyndi said...

Your cards are absolutely gorgeous. I haven't tried the "messy" watercolor technique, but you've inspired me -- I'm definitely giving it a try!

Luanne said...

Just fabulous! I love how free your flowers are, just awesome!

Laura said...

O, Laura Jane! Why would you ever want realistic when you can have this wonderful free hand watercolor?!?!? I love these colors and the edge of the water leaves a natural "outline." The softer shadow type images only add to the beauty of your creation. the tiny blue flowers are a little more crisp and draw my eye by contrast. The greenery has lovely shading in the exact right color of green so as to not overpower the flowers-- a great balance. Personally, I prefer your freehand piece to the stamped one. Thanks so much for showing both of these lovely creations.

Annette Gordon said...

I love how abstract and lose the water colour is. Beautiful!

Lindsey NY said...

I liked your impressionist painting more than the stamped one!
